Summary
The United Jihad Council or UJC for short, is a once-staunchly pro-Pakistan, pro-freedom, armed/militant Council working in both political and militarily spheres to end the foreign administration and rule in Greater Kashmir from India.
The UJC is a council comprising of the majority Islamic resistance groups operating in Greater Kashmir and in other theatres of operation. It overseas and polices the member organisations to ensure they comply with their joint objectives as well as not breaking their rules of war and/or moral codes.
As the council for the majority of groups in Greater Kashmir they do not have a fighting force but it can exercise ruling which essentially makes them the man above the man. Their official formation date mid-1994 however some claim and earlier date.
The Council is still overtly active in a political sense and still has a controlling fist over a number of active outfits. It is currently chaired by Syed Salahuddin, the HM (Hizbul Mujahideen) Supreme Commander.
Main Objectives
UJC wishes to free the areas of Greater Kashmir under Indian-control, an oppressive and brutal occupation as they've stated, and initiate a plebiscite for the natives of the region to decide as to what their aspirations and choices should be - whether it be full independence, autonomous rule under another state or fully joining Pakistan or India. An interesting point that they're for a plebiscite despite being an overtly pro-Pakistani organisation.
Further Information
The Indian-state has proscribed the group as a 'terrorist organisation' and claims that they're a Pakistani-backed outfit. This was certainly the case in the early days, through the 1990s when Pakistan supplied them due to the group being pro-Pakistani. Since the early 2000s however, we've found no evidence of Pakistan still supporting them. Instead, the Pakistani state has actually been actively trying to shut down armed/militant groups operating in its own territory and Pakistani-controlled Greater Kashmir.
